It took three years to do, but a team built through the draft finally reached the top and did so in resounding fashion on Sunday in Toilet Bowl III. Drew Brees threw for 254 yards and two scores as the Shawnees ended a perfect season with a huge 44-21 win as they became the third team to win the California Football Association's Championship in the league's three years. The Bandits actually led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, but the Shanwees scored twenty-four second quarter points to enter halftime with a 27-14 lead. The key play of that second quarter barrage was Terrance McGee's kick return following Southern's scoring drive in the closing seconds of the half. That drive cut Pittsburgh's lead to 20-14, but the all-pro kick returner took the kick and went 91 yards to pay dirt to give Pittsburgh momentum going into the half and they never looked back from there.Congratulations to Trey who reached a championship game for the first time in either baseball or football. He orchestrated numerous trades that made his team a true monster this season. For Tom Bruszak, the championship is his first in football and first in a Cal league since his 2000 Salt Dogs won it all in baseball.
